May Day rally turns violent in Seattle

SEATTLE (AP) — A May Day rally has turned violent in Seattle.

Police and protesters clashed late Wednesday, with officers using flash bang grenades and pepper spray as protesters threw rocks and bottles at police officers and news crews. As protesters moved through downtown Seattle to another neighborhood, they flung construction street barriers, trash cans and newspaper bins on the streets in an attempt to stop police officers. Windows of businesses were broken and vehicles with people in them were banged around.

Seattle Police say they've arrested 11 adults and two juveniles for property damage. One officer was injured after being hit by an object.

Many of the protesters are self-described anarchists. A local anarchist website warned that protesters would try to disrupt the day.

The violence began hours after a peaceful immigrant-rights march had ended.
