UMD Student Upgraded To Serious Condition

(St. Paul, MN) -- The University of Minnesota Duluth student hospitalized for several weeks in St. Paul is slowly starting to improve. Alyssa Lommel spent nearly nine hours outside in below-zero temperatures on the front porch of a house and has been at Regions Hospital ever since. The 19-year-old was upgraded this week from critical to serious condition. On her CaringBridge.com page, Lommel's mother notes the teen is now off a ventilator and can eat ice chips. Amputations will wait until the teen can understand what's going on.
