The End Of The Shutdown Is In Sight

The first procedural hurdle was cleared last night. Coverage – local – on the Hill – the Beeb. Seems like the typical pattern is holding, those moderate and endangered Dems finally reaching a deal with Thune, et. al. – enough to get over the line anyway. And you know it is a good deal because the hard Left is NOT happy.
Taegan Goddard quotes Jonathon Chait – Senate Democrats Just Made a Huge Mistake.
This Ed Morrisey headline is a hoot – Dems Finally Cave on Schumer Shutdown Clown Show; Newsom: ‘Pathetic’.
Eric Daughtery – “The leftists in the Democrat Party are fuming right now.”
I said of the election just past, “This was not an election, this was a petulant tantrum born of anger and disappointment.” Ditto this shutdown. It was opposition for opposition sake.
What is sad, truly, truly sad, is that the Leftists now chastised will not understand that they have been chastised. They will make more noise, throw bigger tantrums, and generally make bigger pests of themselves than they have been. And America, like bad parents, just wanting peace and quiet, might just give them what they want for the sake of that peace and quiet.
The forces of reason, lead by Republicans, have triumphed in this project because they stood firm against the childish pouting and demonstrative acting out of the Left. We stood there, reasonably and sanely while the Left contorted, screamed, blathered and accused, letting the child spend its energy, achieving nothing.
If there is a takeaway from all this – the first one should be for the far Left children of the Democrat Party to accept their chastisement. But like that willful child we all know (hopefully belonging to someone else) we know that is not going to happen, at least not quickly. So, the takeaway we end up with is a lesson to Republicans – stand firm, stand on reason and whatever you do, ignore the internet.
The so-called “silent majority” is real. It was long ago realized that the internet and especially social media, had become toxic. What was supposed to be an effective tool for communication has instead become a vehicle for the childish, petulant, smug and irritating to act out. It has become a place where the kids that used to be relegated to a dark coroner of the cafeteria to act like they are the popular ones. It’s a pretend place, completely disconnected from reality. We need to ignore it, or at the very least filter it multiple times.
When Ed Morrisey quoted California’s ersatz governor Gavin Newsom in the body of the piece linked above, he said “…from the cheap seats.” That just about sums it up perfectly. Who do you pay attention to – the season ticket holders or the guy that bought the last minute $5 ticket just to have a warm place to spend the evening?
The far Left is loud and demonstrative, but they are not the majority. Yes, we have to endure their demonstrations and boisterousness and it is not much fun. But endure it we must. It is a test of wills – ours must be stronger.
JUST AFTER HITTING “PUBLISH”: Mediaite did a round up of the negative reaction from the Left. As predicted – Much wailing, much gnashing of teeth.
ADDENDUM (only vaguely related): YouTubeTV and Disney/ABC/ESPN – if this government mess can settle so can you – GET IT DONE! I hesitate to drop my YouTubeTV subscription because, frankly, I don’t know if they are actually the bad actor in this mess. But living in the heart of the Southeastern Conference with no SEC football on the tube for two weekends now is a big deal and I know what I can fix. I am getting dangerously close to fixing it – dropping the Disney+ subscription at the same time in an effort to send some vague message.
