Trump’s Nebraska remarks framed a temporary gas-price bump as the cost of finishing a war that keeps Iran from striking U.S. cities. Media outlets and California officials treated the line as an invitation for Iran to hit Los Angeles and San Diego, while the stated point was the opposite: leave Iran able to act and American cities become targets. The resulting outrage keeps the downside of inaction in view.
