The former executive director of the Democratic Party of Pennsylvania has been booted out after posting what the party considered controversial social media posts.

The Washington Examiner reports Mark Salvas told CBS-affiliate KDKA last week that he was asked to step down as head of the Allegheny County Democratic Party for posting a photo on Facebook with the words, "I stand for the flag, I kneel at the cross.”

Salvas, a Marine Gulf War veteran said he has no regrets for the posts, obviously referring to the NFL player protests.

Salvas said, “I’m not ashamed of my patriotism, not one bit. I think I have a right to have a voice and be patriotic.”

He also said he supports the players’ demonstrations during the national anthem, saying the flag “gives them the right to do that.”

The panel would only say they are currently looking for a replacement.
