Counterterrorism chief resigns over Iran War

The director of the National Counterterrorism Center has resigned, saying he “cannot in good conscience” support the Trump administration’s war in Iran. Joe Kent said Iran posed “no imminent threat” to the United States and claimed the conflict was driven by pressure from Israel. President Donald Trump has pushed back on that claim, offering differing explanations for the strikes. Kent, who was confirmed last year, led the agency responsible for analyzing and detecting terrorist threats.

David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, could receive a payout of up to $887 million following the company’s sale to Paramount Skydance. The massive compensation package includes cash severance, vested equity, and hundreds of millions in future stock awards triggered by the deal. The payout also includes potential tax reimbursements — though that portion could drop significantly depending on when the deal closes. The $110 billion acquisition is expected to be finalized later this year.

Suicide blasts kill 23 in Nigeria

At least 23 people are dead and more than 100 others wounded after suspected suicide bombings in northeast Nigeria. Police say multiple explosions rocked the city of Maiduguri Monday night, including at a busy market and near a hospital entrance. Authorities believe suicide bombers were responsible for the attacks. No group has claimed responsibility, but suspicion has fallen on the extremist group Boko Haram. The group has waged a deadly insurgency in the region for more than a decade.
